We pour our heart and soul into our work and believe that the greatest achievements are driven by Passion. – Donna Turner-Not, n-ergy

I am immensely proud of our caring, inclusive culture, where we set the highest standards and expectations of ourselves to achieve the very best for all our stakeholder groups. I believe receiving support from n-ergy makes a real difference to individuals while in custody and on release – Donna Turner-Kot, n-ergy CEO
Donna Turner-Kot, the founder of n-ergy, has not only demonstrated an exceptional ability to channel entrepreneurial drive towards creating a significant social impact but has also contributed to SDG 16 and the creation of peace and security by supporting ex-offenders and helping reduce recidivism through the provision of more than 2000 vocational and employability short programmes a year, with a 95 percent learner completion and success rate.
Established in June 2007 in Bridgend in Wales, though serving England and Wales, n-ergy set out with a mission to make a difference in the lives of offenders and ex-offenders by offering vocational training, support, and aftercare services, paving the way for their successful reintegration into society. Leading n-ergy with a deep-seated belief in redemption and the transformative power of education, Turner-Kot has steered the company to become a specialist in delivering training that bridges the gap between custody and community. This commitment is rooted in an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in custody—challenges that n-ergy addresses with “hard work, dedication, and commitment from everyone,” as she recognises.
Under her guidance, n-ergy, with its 20+ employees, has earned an excellent reputation for its seamless service, which extends from in-custody training to post-release support. This comprehensive approach is designed not just to equip individuals with job skills but to foster a sense of purpose and self-worth that supports their journey beyond the prison walls. The ethos is one of care, inclusivity, and high standards, with a team that works tirelessly to ensure that each learner receives the support needed to make meaningful changes in their lives. Turner-Kot acknowledges that her team members are “outgoing, vibrant, have BIG personalities, are non-judgmental, are open-minded, have a good sense of humour, are approachable, determined to make a difference, accepting of diversification, results-driven, learner-centric, and most of all, love the work they do”.

Their people-first approach has enabled them to forge strong partnerships and deliver customised training programmes that align with the needs of prisons, learners, and employers alike. Consequently, n-ergy made it onto the Wales Fast Growth 50 list for three consecutive years (2011–2013), and Donna was also honoured as the Corporate Responsibility Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors (IoD) Wales in 2014. Additionally, she received a special commendation as Best Business Leader in the Welsh Women Means Business Awards and was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, underscoring her leadership and n-ergy’s impact in the region.
n-ergy’s impactful work and ethos significantly contribute to the achievement of several SDGs, encapsulating the essence of sustainable business practices. By providing vocational training and employment support to offenders and ex-offenders, n-ergy’s efforts to reduce re-offending rates and promote social inclusion resonate with SDG 16, (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), underscoring its commitment to fostering peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. Additionally, by offering equal opportunities to marginalised individuals, it addresses SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), ensuring that everyone has the chance to contribute to and benefit from fostering economic advancement through meaningful employment (SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth). Furthermore, by aiding individuals in their reintegration into society, they contribute to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), enhancing social cohesion and sustainability. Also, their innovative approach to education within the custodial system aligns with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), by leveraging innovation to build a resilient infrastructure, while their strategic collaboration with a variety of stakeholders embodies the spirit of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), showcasing the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable development objectives.
