Welcome to the Future

“The medieval university looked backwards; it professed to be a storehouse of old knowledge. The modern university looks forward and is a factory for new knowledge”. [“Darwin’s Bulldog” the English biologist, Thomas Huxley 1825-1895]

Professor David A. Kirby, BA., Ph.d is delighted to have been reappointed to the Advisory Council of Gandaki University, a new Nepalese university opened in 2019 in the picturesque city of Pokhara (the City of Lakes). The aim of the University is not just to help develop the human resource capacity of Nepal but to improve the quality of life of the country’s people by developing a new class of quality leadership; a goal, David passionately believes, all 21st century universities should aspire to achieve.

As part of its mission, the University is keen to develop a spirit of collaboration and innovation and is organising its annual international conference entitled “Empowering Excellence: Global Collaboration in Research and Academia.”. The conference is to be held from 3-5 January, 2024 and further details. are available at https://www.gandakiuniversity.edu.np/guic2024/

If you are unable to participate in the conference but are due a period of study leave or a research sabbatical, why not explore the possibility of spending some time helping build a university for the future; a University that strives to promote the advancement of society through knowledge and to prepare its students not only for life but to take the lead for peaceful living in the turbulent world they are likely to encounter during their life trajectory.
